Journeys of
Healing + Hope

From Anxiety to Independence

Our therapist Safa recently worked with a child experiencing OCD rooted in separation anxiety, leading to overwhelming distress when away from caregivers. The child engaged in reassurance-seeking and avoidance behaviors, which made school attendance and independent activities challenging. Using ERP, we built a gradual hierarchy of exposures to support them in tolerating time apart from caregivers, resulting in improved independence and reduced anxiety around separation.

Finding the Way Back

Our therapist Safa, recently worked with a professional adult in the medical community struggling with fear of contracting blood borne illness. The OCD began to create difficulty leaving the home due to time consuming compulsions. The individual needed to return to work; and remember the place they loved to be before OCD. We discovered their core fear and based exposure and response prevention on that, ultimately helping them return to work.

When Shame Gives Way To Pride

Our therapist Erin recently worked with a young professional navigating entering the workforce while struggling with taboo and distressing intrusive thoughts. Thoughts questioning their sexual orientation, doubts about their partner, and intrusive fears around suicide were triggering overwhelming mental compulsions and creating intense shame. Through a personalized ERP program we worked together to help them face their fears and reduce compulsions. With time, effort, and courage they began to feel more confident in their identity, at ease in their relationship and ready to reclaim their future at full speed.

From Shame to Confidence

Our therapist Safa, recently treated a young child experiencing OCD centered around fears of social judgment and morality. They were distressed by intrusive thoughts about being a “bad person” and engaged in visible compulsions and rituals that disrupted daily functioning. Through ERP, we worked on reducing rituals and increasing tolerance for uncertainty, helping the child feel more confident and comfortable in social situations.

Learning to Let Go Together

Our therapist Erin recently worked with a family drawing on each other’s fears. The two siblings were absorbing their parents’ fears about something happening to them (the kids). When separated, the children felt extremely distressed and withdrew from activities old and new. They also began calling the parents asking to be picked up early from school every day. Through a custom ERP program for the children and a SPACE program for the parents, both siblings were able to overcome their fear. The children returned to school and are having fun once again engaging in extracurricular activities. The parents have overcome their own fears and understand how they can affect the children.

From Stuck In Place To Moving Forward

Our therapist Erin recently worked with a retired medical professional with a long time OCD diagnosis but who had never done ERP treatment. This retiree was experiencing intrusive thoughts around germs and contamination along with a need for everything to be arranged just so. Symptoms aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unable to enjoy retirement, Erin created a treatment plan to help this person understand how exposures work and how to lean into the fear. Instead of spending retirement cleaning and arranging, this individual is enjoying tai chi, gardening, and travel.

From Hopeless to Hopeful

Our therapist Shaina recently worked with a young adult who had been experiencing OCD since childhood and were now experiencing intense, violent intrusive thoughts. We used ERP to identify their core fear and build a plan tailored to their goals. From sleepless nights to sleeping through the night; slipping grades to finding pride in their academic work; overwhelmed and exhausted to confidence and increased self-value they learned to trust their ability to handle uncertainty and reclaim their life.

Samantha Boddington

MSW, RSW, ERP Therapist

From Fearful to Free

Our therapist Samantha recently worked with a young child struggling with scary thoughts linked to magical thinking and harm. As the child’s anxiety grew they began to keep these worries hidden out of fear they would come true. The parents began to notice compulsive behaviors — avoiding certain words, seeking reassurance, a decline in school attendance and withdrawing from activities they once enjoyed. In an effort to help, the parents tried to manage life situations for the child which served to reinforce the anxiety and make the fears stronger. Using a custom age-appropriate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy treatment plan, we helped the child build their confidence, return to school full-time, and reconnect with friends and hobbies. OCD no longer gets in the way of things that matter most to them.
