This unsettling moment marked the beginning of a challenging journey with scrupulous OCD that would shape much of my life.

As I grew older, the intrusive thoughts became more frequent and distressing. I found myself tormented by vivid mental images of religious figures engaged in inappropriate acts. These thoughts weren’t just annoying; they were invasive, gnawing at my conscience and flooding me with overwhelming guilt and shame. They clashed with my beliefs, leaving me feeling isolated and confused.

Academic Challenges and Compulsive Behaviour

Navigating school became increasingly difficult as obsessive thoughts took hold. During exams, I would obsess over the fear of writing something offensive about God on my test papers. I’d spend the entire exam period scrutinizing every word I wrote, paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake. This obsession consumed my focus and led to poor academic performance and mounting anxiety.

University Struggles and Overcoming OCD

University should have been a time of growth and exploration, but for me, it became a battleground against OCD. Driving to class became nerve-wracking as harmful thoughts flooded my mind. I vividly remember one incident where, in a rush to make it to a lecture, I swerved slightly and convinced myself I had hit someone. Panic gripped me, and I found myself shaking uncontrollably. I retreated to the bathroom, tears streaming down my face, overwhelmed by fear and guilt. At that moment, OCD’s grip on my life felt stronger than ever.
